Drinks
Aloe Vera Juice
If added in skincare products or cosmetics, it is safe. When consumed it can cause uterine contractions due to the presence of anthraquinones.
Beer
All kinds of beers are unsafe, including (but not limited to) all ales, lagers, pilsners, IPA, stout, porter, bock, pale ale, brown ale, bitter, wheat beer, barley wine, saison, helles, and fruit beers. This includes Guinness.
Black Tea
Black tea types include Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Lapsang Souchong, Assam, Ceylon, Darjeeling, and many more.
Carbonated Drinks (Soda, Pop)
Many carbonated soft drinks contain caffeine and lots of sugar. Check the ingredients thoroughly before consuming.
Coca-Cola
Be careful with all varieties, including diet versions.
Coffee
Do not have more than 200mg of caffeine a day.
Fruit Cordial
Be aware of added ingredients and preparation methods if homemade. Store bought is safe.
Fruit Juice
Whether fresh or from concentrate, check for the safety of added ingredients. Please check the fruits included in the juice to make sure they are safe. Common juices such as apple, orange, cranberry, pineapple, and tomato are all safe.
Goat Milk
Ok if made with pasteurised milk.
Green Tea
Green tea can contain as much caffeine as regular black tea.
Guinness
Guinness is a brand of stout beer. It is unsafe to drink during pregnancy due to the alcohol content.
Herbal Tea
There's little information on the safety of herbal and green teas in pregnancy, so it's best to drink them in moderation.
Green tea contains caffeine.
Hot Chocolate (Cocoa)
Be aware of multiple ingredients, such as added liqueurs or coffees. Alcohol is unsafe during pregnancy; caffeine should be limited strictly to 200mg per day.
Liquor (Liqueur)
All kinds of mixed and flavoured liquors are unsafe.
Matcha
Matcha is finely ground tea leaves, and contains caffeine. It can be added to many dishes for flavouring or colouring.
Milk
Ok if made with pasteurised milk.
Non-Alcoholic Spirits (Liquor, Liqueur)
Including vodkas, gins, whiskeys, rums, brandies, and other similar distilled drinks.
Pepsi
Be careful with all varieties, including diet versions.
Rooibos Tea (Redbush Tea)
Rooibos tea does not contain caffeine.
Sheep Milk
Ok if made with pasteurised milk.
